Single Idea 24358

[catalogued under 16. Persons / F. Free Will / 6. Determinism / a. Determinism]

Full Idea

That something regularly and calculably takes place does not consequently imply that it necessarily takes place.

Gist of Idea

If something is regular and calculable, that doesn't mean it is necessary

Source

Friedrich Nietzsche (Fragments from 1886-87 (v 17) [1887], 9[091])

A Reaction

I strongly deny this fixed idea that the only alternative to free will is something called 'determinism'. That is a quite separate issue. I like Nietzsche's thought.
