Marx assumes, in general, that at least some of an ideology is false, that an ideology is the product of theorists who make biased claims undetermined by evidence, and that an ideology only supports the interests of the ruling class.

[summarised] I tend to understand an ideology as simply the theory which guides any social movement, and that it is possible for an ideology to be very good. If a Marxist ideology is gradually improved, when does it stop being an ideology?
